Product Overview

The Oil-Only Absorbent Boom is a contractor-grade containment boom designed for rapid response to petroleum-based spills on water and hard surfaces. Available in multiple diameters (4″, 5″, and 8″) and lengths (10′ and 20′), each boom delivers high-capacity absorbency while repelling water — making it ideal for shoreline protection, retention pond containment, stormwater drain defense, and marina spill response.

Each boom features a durable polyester mesh netting filled with high-performance polypropylene poly-blend filler that selectively targets oil, diesel, gasoline, hydraulic fluid, and other hydrocarbons. Stainless steel snap-clip connectors at both ends allow crews to link multiple booms together into a continuous barrier of any length. The white color provides easy visual monitoring of oil saturation levels during active containment.

Description: A poly sock skin filled with highly absorbent polypropylene with a strong mesh outer sleeve. Filler does not shed and booms will not sink when saturated with oil. Hardware with sturdy nylon rope ensures durability and easy retrieval. Booms can be linked together. They clip together with carbon steel connector hardware.

Oil Absorbent Boom Questions

Absorbent boom vs containment boom: what's the difference?

An absorbent boom soaks oil up and is disposed of once saturated. A containment boom doesn't absorb; it's a reusable floating barrier that holds oil in place so it can be recovered. Many sites use both: containment boom on the outside, absorbent boom inside.

How much oil does an absorbent boom hold?

Per case: about 19.5 gal for 4" x 10' booms, 30 gal for 5" booms and 38 gal for 8" booms (see the table above).

Will oil absorbent booms sink?

No. They float even when saturated with oil, and they repel water, so they keep working on rivers, ponds, marinas and harbors.

Which diameter should I choose?

4" and 5" booms suit smaller spills, drains, ditches and marinas; 8" booms hold the most oil and suit larger spills and open water. Booms of any size clip together for longer runs.

Do absorbent booms work for chemicals or water-based spills?

No. They absorb hydrocarbons only. For coolants, water-based fluids or chemicals, use universal or hazmat booms.
